Topel Winery, 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon, Hidden Vineyard, Mendocino

Recently I was invited to dinner at some new friends who live in Hopland just about 20 minutes north of where I am in Geyserville California, and was served a wonderful Cabernet Sauvignon of their own making.

Donnis and Mark Topel have devoted the last 15 years of their lives to the goal of creating delicious wines of the very highest quality and their efforts clearly show. Their efforts were recognized by the venerable and prestigious Vintners Club when they held a blind tasting of premium Cabernets and Bordeaux-style blends. This tasting was part of the organizations Spotlight on the Great California Cabernet Series and featured the best of non-Napa Cabernets/Bordeaux-style blends. The Topel 2001 Cabernet Sauvignon took first place!

Donnis served a wonderful meal to pair with the Cabernet...the recipe for which can be found here (url) and this is your opportunity to sample the wine at a specially negotiated rate of $28 per bottle while supplies last. 860 cases of this wine were produced...and not a lot remains.
